The Phoenix Trio (Michael Djupstrom, Lara Hall and Rebecca Hartka) is named after the mythological bird who emerges youthful from a regenerating flame every 2000 years. The trio believes that music has the same power to transform listeners, as well as be renewed and meaningful with each generation. In line with their vision, Phoenix trio awakens audiences to the relevancy of music to contemporary concerns through creative programs of timeless classics as well as pieces that reflect the globalism of our current time. They are particularly interested in music that explores the intersection of western and nonwestern cultures, folk and classical music.

The Phoenix Trio received a grant in 2005 from the Brookline Community Tercentennial fund of Brookline, MA. This grant supported a series of concerts in New York and Brookline, MA celebrating the cultural heritage of America's immigrants through music.

The Phoenix Trio was formed in the summer of 2004 while participating as full fellows in the Brevard Music Center Advanced Chamber Music Program in Brevard, North Carolina.
