Recover data from Damaged Hard Drive?
I've a Western Digital IDE hard drive and it gives an I/O error upon connecting it to my PC. Recovering the data with software also produces the same error. I now plan to replace the pcb controller on the hard drive in a final attempt to get the data. The hard drive information is wd2500jb-00rea0, I don't understand what the further piece of info on the hard Drive relates to it is "DCM DSBHNT2CHN"
I can't find a replacement board wit the same DCM number however I can find a replaement board for the model of drive ie "wd2500jb-00rea0"
Does the DCM number need to be an exact match or is it okay to get a replacement PCB for only the model number.

It is ok to get a replacement PCB using only the model number most of the time. The DCM number has more to do with the read/write heads.
