Speed up your slow rural internet connection
For years now people in rural areas or just on the out side of town have been unable to get fast internet service. Sure the DSL or cable company keeps saying they are working on getting service in your area but it’s been a years now and still no action.
Well if your looking for rural internet then you do still have several options out there. One thing to consider is using a high speed satellite internet provider. The price for satellite internet has really come down in the last few years due to competition so if it’s been a while since you looked then check out the link above.
Another great idea that many people over look is to use a wireless broadband company. Places like Cricket, Sprint and AT&T now offer internet service at 3G speeds using their cell phone towers. You can learn more about such services on this wireless internet access site. If you can get a good cell signal were you are at then one of these carriers would work well for you. Always be sure they have a 30 day period were you can cancel your contract. This is to ensure you get a good signal over a period of time.There is nothing worse then getting stuck in a contract for a year and not being able to use the service.
There are a few differences between 3G wirless carriers and Satellite internet access. With the wireless service you have to use a USB cable modem and you can not share your connection unless you purchase a separate and special wireless modem. With Satellite you are able to use any wireless modem you like and share that signal. So if you have more then one computer in your home then going with satellite is a better choice. The price is very similar and the speeds are generally a little better on the satellite end.
How do I know if I have a High Speed USB port?
I'm not exactly a computer wizard, so you may have to forgive my lack of knowledge.
How, exactly, do I know if I have a high speed USB port? Are all USB ports the same or is this a specific one used for more powerful devices?
look in the Device Manager.
right click on My Computer / Properties / Hardware Tab / Device Manager / expand USB-Controller (clicking on the +sign). if there are 2 entries saying USB2 Enhanced Host Controller and USB 2.0 Root-Hub it's a PC with high speed USB.
all ports are of the same type (there were a few notebooks with both types, but this was very rare).
I’m Already Bored With The iPad 3 (crunchgear?)
The iPad 3 is coming next month. Or so says the endless rumors. These rumors
also state the next iPad will have higher resolution screen and high-speed
data connection. But I couldn't care less. The iPad 3, if that's really its
name, sounds like a stop-gap upgrade to me. You see, I'm perfectly happy with
my iPad 2. Save the addition of an SD card slot, there isn't a single feature
I can imagine that will make me trade up to Apple's new hotness. I guess the
iPad 3 sounds great, but it also sounds boring. That's not saying Apple won't
sell a zillion iPad 3s. It will. But it's going to take more than a spec bump
for me (and likely many others) to upgrade from the iPad 2.
