How can I tell which front panel I have on my PC?
I have a front panel on my new novatech galaxy 3 case. I was wondering whether it is AC'97 or HD audio. I have a foxconn H55M-S motherboard. Do front panels tend to be compatible with both audio types or just one or the other? It has a 2x5 connector with pin 4 missing. Is this connector AC'97 and if it is, is there any way of converting it to HD?
Looking at the pin layouts, BOTH have the 4th pin on one side missing.
Pin 4, the second pin on that side, is the sense input for HD (must be wired or linked to ground to indicate HD), while for AC97, it's an extra ground line which may be omitted.
Pin 7, opposite the missing pin, is a sense line in HD, and a 5V source in AC97, so once again, could be omitted in an AC97 jack connection
