Light Peak, ThunderBolt And Also The New MacBook Pro
Apple launched the latest Macbook Pro Feb. 24, the 56th birthday of CEO Jobs. A majority of the commentary about the new MacBook Pro is about Light Peak. Light Peak is an innovative new I/O protocol created by Intel. As the first company to implement Light Peak, Apple has taken the liberty to rebrand the interface as ThunderBolt.
About ThunderBolt velocity
Many are excited about the brand new ThunderBolt technology accessible on the new MacBook Pro offered by Apple. This is the only difference between the old and brand new models. Formerly known as Intel's Light Peak, ThunderBolt has dual channel transfer rates as high as 10 gigabits per second. The USB 3.0 could be changed by this I/O technology according to Apple. An HD movie can be transferred, up to 20 gigabits, from a source in less than 30 seconds on the MacBook Pro with ThunderBolt, Intel explained. The new Apple MacBook Pro has five models accessible. These contain two that are 13-inches, two that are 15-inches and one that is 17-inches. Prices run $1,200 to $2,500 before possibilities. Dual or quad-core versions are available in all MacBooks. The Intel Core i5 or i7 processors are accessible.
FireWire isn’t almost as fast as ThunderBolt is
Thunderbolt technology offers the flexibility of FireWire with transfer speeds up to three times faster. Only one port for ThunderBolt is needed, just like FireWire, for MacBook Pro as the devices could be interconnected for Thunderbolt. There is no need for an external power adapter. That is because power is supplied in ThunderBolt. Many functions can be done on one interface on ThunderBolt. The process figures out what the use is automatically. The technology will work as an interface for everything from external hard drives to display monitors. Intel's Light Peak prototypes featured optical cables, but Apple's ThunderBolt runs on copper wires in order to support bus-powered peripherals.
Apple makes big change
There can be ThunderBolt devices shipped soon. It will start in the spring of this year. FireWire and USB adapters could be enabled. This is because Apple’s ThunderBolt taps peripherals to the PCI interface. The brand new MacBook Pro also comes with 2 USB 2.0 ports and one FireWire 800 port. The ThunderBolt brings Apple ahead of the competition again just as it was the first to create a laptop, the MacBook Air, without an optical drive in 2010 as it stopped using the floppy drive in 1998. ThunderBolt will likely be adopted in 2010 by PC manufacturers keeping up with Apple.
