Review Of Device Manager

Device Manager is an applet included in all Windows OS that displays a complete list of all the hardware devices connected on your computer. There are many benefits that PC users may gain from being familiar with the uses and features of Device Manager, like enabling you to troubleshoot hardware device issues such as an Unknown Device. Here are several steps to open the Device Manager:

For Windows XP/Vista/7:

   1. Click “Start” or “Windows” button

   2. Right-click “My Computer” or “Computer"

   3. Click Manage

   4. Click Device Manager

As you can see in the Device Manager window, an ordered list of hardware devices will be displayed. It shows how your PC interacts with other hardware devices, including the type of device and how it is connected on your PC. The topmost item in the list is your PC itself, labeled by a name of your choice during the installation of your Windows OS, and below are the general types of hardware. Most likely, you may also have similar general types of hardware such as IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, Monitors, Network adapters, System devices, and Processors.

Clicking the “+” sign will expand the general types of devices and it will display the specific devices included in their function. For example: expanding “System devices” will provide specific devices such as ACPI Utility, Interface Controller, PCI bus, and System board.

Device Manager gives vital information regarding a specific device. For example, you can view the properties of "PCI bus" by:

   1. Right clicking "PCI Bus"

   2. Clicking "Properties"

         a. The “General” tab displays the following data:

                1. Device Type: System devices

                2. Manufacturer: (Standard System Devices) which means that it is a built-in device

                3. Location: on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System

The General tab also displays status of a hardware device and it will provide necessary actions/tips if there is a device related problem. For example, you can be assisted to download driver (.exe or .zip) for unknown device.

         b. The “Driver” tab provides the options to view Driver Details, Update Driver, Roll Back Driver, and Uninstall.

         c. The “Details” tab includes IDs of your device.

These are only a few of the features of Device Manager that will help users to maintain their PCs free from device related problems.

how to set up bios for ga-965p ds3?

I have that motherboard,2 sata hdd, and 1 ide burner. I tried to burn some dvd and get failure. I checked my drive by nero info tool and figure out that my burner is not set to DMA mode, and it's not controlled by ide ata/atapi controller but by gigabyte gx36b. I think my burner should be controlled by ide ata/atapi, therefore I can set the DMA for it.What can I do to improve my pc?

Use Device Manager to view the properties of the IDE channel to which the drive is connected, the Advanced Settings tab may show that the current transfer mode for the drive is "PIO Mode." To fix you can uninstall the IDE controller and it will reinstall automatically when you reboot. It will change the drive letter to a different letter, but that can be changed in Disk Management. It should be Ultra DMA 2 and it will change to PIO Mode if the burner makes six errors.
